Morokweng police are investigating a case of murder after a 10-month-old baby girl was discovered with head injuries and bruises on her body at Botsalano Section on Friday, 19 January 2024.
Initial reports suggest that the baby’s mother left her in the care of a friend on Thursday, 18 January 2024. Later at about 20:00, the neighbour’s 11-year-old boy, went to her house and indicated that the baby’s grandmother sent him to fetch the baby. She then handed the baby over to the 11-year-old boy.
Sadly, the baby was found dead by the friend in her yard the next morning (Friday) and the police were immediately called to the scene. Emergency and Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) declared the baby dead on the scene.
The 11-year-old boy, who is currently kept under the supervision of his parents, will be evaluated by a Social Worker. He will be dealt with in accordance with the Child Justice Act, 2008 (Act No. 75 of 2008). A post mortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death.

The North West Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena is saddened by the incident and requested the community to allow the police to do investigations to ensure that justice is served.
