A man in his 60s has sadly died in Ermelo this morning, Saturday 27 January 2024, when a light aircraft crashed next to an airfield. A case of Culpable Homicide is being investigated by the Civil Aviation of South Africa in conjunction with the South African Police Service.
Stakeholders in the Emergency Services were summoned to the crash side in Ermelo in the morning of today, but unfortunately the man who was a pilot of the plane was certified dead.
Preliminary investigation indicates that the pilot was alone during the time of the accident. More details with regard to the crash will be shared with the public in due course however it appears as if the plane was coming from Bethlehem in the Free State Province.
The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela has emphasized that the accident will be thoroughly investigated by both Civil Aviation of South Africa as well as the SAPS.
