Three accused, including a business entity, were served with summons and are expected to appear before the Bloemfontein Magistrates’ Court on 12 April 2024 for contravening the Tax Administration Act.
It is alleged that a company director and an accountant under declared their Corporate Income Tax (CIT) and output Value Added Tax (VAT) for the period April 2017 to December 2020.
Criminal Investigation Section of the South African Revenue Service (SARS) pursued an internal investigation and discovered that SARS was prejudiced and suffered a loss of about R818 247-43.
On 11 April 2023, the matter was referred to Bloemfontein Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation for further investigation. As a result, the three suspects, two males aged 39 and 40 and a company were served with summons on 5 February 2024.
