Suspect to appear in court for the possession of crayfish worth R500 000

The protection of living marine resources remain key to policing priorities in the Western Cape and therefore members remain committed and their endurance ensured that a 36-year-old suspect find himself behind bars facing a charge relating to the illegal possession of crayfish.

On 06 February 2024 at about 19:15, members attached to Operation Restore received information that crayfish are being stored at a premises in Summit Road, Pinati, Hanover Park. The members immediately operationalised the information and tactically approached the address. They found and confiscated 14020 units of crayfish tails, and 203 crayfish with an estimated street value of R500 000-00.

The suspect is scheduled to appear in the Athlone Magistratesā€™ court tomorrow, 08 February 2024, on the mentioned charge.
