Police arrest four suspects and recover three suspected stolen vehicles at the Beitbridge border post

The swift action of police officers stationed at the Beitbrige border post in Musina has resulted in the interception of three motor vehicles before they could be smuggled out of the country on Tuesday, 06 February 2024. Four suspects aged between 28 and 64 were arrested.

The suspects were arrested during separate incidents after they were stopped at the vehicle control point. Police discovered that the drivers of all three vehicles; a Ford Ranger (with one passenger), Audi Q7, and Mercedes Benz Actros truck, were in possession of fraudulent documents, and the VIN numbers were also altered.

A preliminary investigation indicated that the vehicles were reported stolen in Gauteng province.

Limpopo Acting Provincial Commissioner of Major General Jan Scheepers commended the officers for their vigilance and dedication.

“This is a testimony to the ongoing efforts of the SAPS to clamp down on vehicle theft and cross-border crimes” remarked Major General Scheepers.

The four suspects consisting of two South Africans and two foreign nationals are expected to appear before Musina Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 08 February, facing charges of possession of suspected stolen motor vehicles.

Police investigations are ongoing.
