Today, between 10:00 and 14:00, Kwamashu, Inanda, Ntuzuma and Newlands East SAPS in Ethekwini District held a joint operation with other law enforcement partners such as Metro, Department of Home Affairs and Neighbourhood Watch. The aim of the operation was to remove and fine vehicles, who are without a registration number plate on the front or back of their vehicles.
Various vehicle checkpoints were established within Inanda, Kwamashu, Newlands East and Ntuzuma area.
This resulted in 40 vehicles being impounded and fined R500 to R1000 for operating a vehicle on a public road without a registration number plate.
Other operational successes were 12 warrants of arrests for outstanding traffic fines and 214 traffic related offences.
Ethekwini District Commissioner Major General Makhosazana Victoria Kheswa said, ‘Many of our criminals are operating in vehicles with no registration plates in order to commit crime or evade arrest. We will ensure a zero tolerance on vehicles not having their registration plates visible as stipulated by National Road Traffic Act. We advise all drivers to get their vehicles in check.”
