A Tshwane Metropolitan officer (37) has been summoned to appear before the court on charges of corruption.
A complaint was received from a senior manager at the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) under the National Traffic Anti-Corruption Unit. The complaints were received by the unit from the public regarding the number of law enforcement officers within the Tshwane, Ekurhuleni and Johannesburg Metropolitan Departments who demand enticement from motorists who violate the rules of the road. It is alleged that the officer demanded R100 enticement from a motorist instead of issuing the motorist with a fine for driving a vehicle without a license plate.
The matter was reported to the Germiston based Serious Corruption Investigation and an investigation began which led to the suspect being summoned on Monday, 19 February 2024. The suspect is expected to appear before the Pretoria Magistrate Court on 12 March 2024.
