Maximum resources deployed to Florida following reports of bodies that have allegedly been seen in the policing precinct where illegal mining is prevalen

Gauteng Police can confirm that following information received about eight bodies that have allegedly been seen in Florida policing precinct where illegal mining is prevalent, maximum resources were mobilised to search the area.

So far only one charred body was discovered just after 10:00, near the Central Gold Mine.

The team conducting the search include members from SAPS and Help 24 Security drones, SAPS Air wing, NIU, TRT, K9, Florida Crime Prevention and other stakeholders. Drones and a Police helicopter are used as the ground force’s eyes in the sky to search the densely vegetated area.

The cause of death will be determined following a post mortem examination.

MOHLAKENG

In a separate incident, the police in Mohlakeng, West Rand District were called to a crime scene in Bundu Inn where three bodies were discovered with gunshot wounds in the morning of 14 March 2024. The motive for the killing will be determined through investigation.

It is suspected that the victims could be linked to illegal mining as this area is a hot spot for illegal mining activities.
