Strategic deployment of specialized police units in hotspot areas in the Cape Metropole to combat shootings and serious and violent crime, yielded positive results in the early hours of Sunday morning when members arrested a suspect for the illegal possession of a prohibited firearm.
Members of Public Order Police deployed in Lingelethu West were busy with patrols in Monani Street when they noticed a silver grey Mercedes Benz with four occupants inside parked next to the road. They approached and searched the occupants and the vehicle upon which they found a 9mm pistol without a serial number with ammunition on one of the males. The adult male was arrested for the possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition.
He will appear in the Khayelitsha Magistrates’ court once he has been charged.
