Police in the North West Province working together with other law enforcement agencies continue to put suspects behind bars through Operation Shanela. This after 1 011 suspects were held between Monday, 01 to Sunday, 07 April 2024, for different crimes.
The suspects were arrested for robbery aggravating, murder, attempted murder, assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm and common, dealing in drugs, illegal dealing in liquor, possession of drugs, burglary at business and residential premises, driving under the influence of alcohol and many others. Additionally, 103 suspected undocumented persons were taken in for processing by Immigration Officials. Out of 1 011 suspects, 392 were wanted and circulated. They were nabbed during detectives suspect raiding operations.
In one of the arrests, a 28-year-old suspect wanted for rape allegedly committed in May 2021 in Laudium outside Pretoria, was arrested on Saturday, 6 April 2024, in Pudimoe. The suspect was arrested by Pudimoe Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit and the local Visible Policing after intelligence was received that he was hiding at a house in the area.
As part of the actions executed during the operations, 128 premises, 2 523 persons and 1 270 vehicles were searched. The operation also led to the confiscation of alcohol, precious metals, cellular phones, a variety of drugs, seven firearms, copper cables and two vehicles.
The Provincial Commissioner commended the members and other law enforcement agencies for their commitment to ensure the well-being of our communities through continuous and enhanced crime prevention and combating operations.
