Ex-convict to reappear in court for murder

A 53-year-old, Ntatabuta Maleke, is expected to reappear in the Ganyesa Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 25 April 2024. The accused remains in custody following his first court appearance on Monday, 08 April 2024, for murder.

Maleke appeared in court after being arrested on Saturday, 05 April 2024, at Tsholofelo Location, Piet Plessis, outside Vryburg. He allegedly killed his girlfriend, Angelina Maruping (43) between Friday, 05 and Saturday, 06 April 2024. According to information, police were on patrol when they received information and proceeded to the suspect’s residence and gained entrance into the house. They found a half brick with blood stains in the kitchen and Angeline’s body on the floor, covered with a blanket. A blood stained chain was also found next to her body. The victim was certified dead at the scene by paramedics and the suspect was immediately arrested.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Maleke has a previous conviction of culpable homicide after he assaulted his girlfriend who later died. Maleke was then sentenced in December of 2003, to 15 years’ imprisonment of which three years’ was suspended for four years’ on condition that he was not found guilty of an offence during the period of suspension.

The North West Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena condemned the incident and commended the police for their swift reaction, which led to the arrest of the suspect.
