Akim Moyo (33) and Tshepang Bome (22) appeared before the Rustenburg Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 15 April 2024, for possession of suspected stolen goods, unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
The duo’s court appearance follows their arrest on Friday, 12 April 2024, in the Rustenburg Central Business District (CBD) after members who were on patrol spotted and stopped a suspicious vehicle for a search. The police found cell phones and unlicensed firearms in the vehicle. The suspects were also linked to the business robbery that was allegedly committed at a butchery earlier in town. According to information,
five armed suspects entered at the butchery just before the closing time and instructed the staff to lie down. The suspects allegedly demanded took out money that was on the tills and other items, then fled the scene with two white vehicles; a Toyota Corolla and Volkswagen Polo with Gauteng Province registration numbers.
The suspects are expected to appear before the same court again on Monday, 22 April 2024, for formal bail application. Investigations into the matter including the tracing of three other suspects, are underway.
The Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, applauded members of Rustenburg Flying Squad for their vigilance that led to the arrest of the two accused.
