Vehicle Crime Investigation Units (VCIU) investigating two cases of carjacking in two Districts Capricorn and Vhembe respectively, that took place on Friday, 19 April 2024.
In Lebowakgomo Sepanapudi, Capricorn District a 68-year-old victim was with his son and his son’s friend cleaning an empty stand when two suspects approached them. One of the suspects pointed the victims with a firearm, ordered them to lie down, tied them and robbed them of three cellphones, an undisclosed amount of cash, and house keys. The suspects left the victims tied in the bushes.
They then drove off with the victim’s bakkie, a Toyota Hilux white in colour. The victims eventually succeeded in freeing themselves and notify the Police who opened a case of car jacking
In another incident of carjacking that took place in Thohoyandou, Ha Mavhunda village Vhembe District, a 63-year-old man was at the shops where he does the piece job of transporting goods that customers bought. A male suspect, who pretended to be looking for transport to carry two boxes of tiles, apparently approached him. They then agreed on a payment, and boxes were loaded.When they reached Ha Mavhunda, the victim was given a direction to offload boxes.
When he reached the place to offload, two suspects emerged, grabbed him, and took him to an unfinished house where they tied him with rope and drove off with his bakkie Toyota Hilux white in colour and they also robbed him of two cellphones, a driver’s license, identity documents, and other belongings.
Police were alerted about both incidents and opened cases of carjacking.
