Continued interventions to create a safe environment for all inhabitants in our province yielded success when police confiscated yet another firearm on Thursday morning, 30 May 2024.
Members of Public Order Police were busy with crime prevention operations in the Lwandle policing precinct when they received information about a suspect that is in possession of a firearm. The members obtained a description of the suspect and operationalised the information. The members found the suspect who fitted the description provided and ensued with a search of the suspect and the premises. They found and confiscated a 9mm pistol with ammunition. The 21-year-old suspect was arrested for the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
In an unrelated intervention, members of the Anti-Gang Unit searched a premises in Thames Walk, Manenberg on Wednesday and arrested a 35-year-old suspect when they found a 9mm pistol with ammunition hidden in the roof of his bedroom.
The suspects will make their court appearances in the Strand and Athlone Magistrate’s Courts respectively, once charged.
