Lucky Mdluli (33) and Keabetswe Jan Sikwa (43) were both remanded in custody when they appeared separately in the Rustenburg and Lehurutshe Magistrates’ Courts on Friday, 28 June 2024, for burglary and possession of suspected stolen firearms.
The pair’s court appearances emanate from an incident in which detectives offices, situated in Fatima Bhayat Street in Rustenburg, were broken into in January this year. Subsequently, laptops, electrical equipment and two firearms with a safe were stolen.
Following investigations, Lucky Mduli was identified as one of the suspects. Lucky was not so lucky, when officers spotted and arrested him in a Café, not far from the Detectives offices on Wednesday, 26 June 2024. He was questioned and the exercise led to the arrest of Keabetswe Jan Sikwa. Further probe directed the police to a house in Dinokana Village, close to Zeerust where two firearms with ammunition were found and seized. One of the firearms’ serial number was obliterated and the other was found to be one of those stolen during the break-in.
Lucky Mdluli who appeared before the Rustenburg Magistrates’ Court for burglary, was remanded in custody until Thursday, 18 July 2024.
Sikwa was also remanded in custody until Wednesday, 03 July 2024, by the Lehurutshe Magistrates’ Court where he appeared for unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition.
The Police Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena congratulated the team for working hard to ensure that the alleged perpetrators are brought to book and for recovering the stolen firearms considering that a firearm in the wrong hands, can cause devastation.
