Johannesburg Metro Police Officer sentenced for corruption

Thomo Amos Ramokone (51) has been sentenced by the Alexandra Magistrates court on Thursday, 18 July 2024 for corruption.

A complaint was received from a senior manager at the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) under the National Traffic Anti-Corruption Unit. The complaints were received by the unit from the public regarding the number of law enforcement officers within the Tshwane, Ekurhuleni and Johannesburg Metropolitan Departments who demand enticement from motorists who violate the rules of the road. On 13 September 2017, undercover agents were deployed and an operation was conducted where the accused demanded money from an agent, which led to a lengthy investigation.

On 14 October 2022, Ramokone was issued with summons to appear in court and on Thursday, 18 July 2024, the accused was sentenced to (3) years imprisonment wholly suspended for (5) years on condition that the accused is not found guilty on Corruption during the period of suspension.
