Police arrested three suspects aged between 27 and 31 years, and one was fatally shot during a shootout between police and the suspects yesterday 10 August 2024.
The arrest followed after police responded to a business robbery that occurred at Magodla Administrative Area, Mthonjeni location in Ngqamakwe. Police received information about six men that robbed a homestead and spaza shop and wounded the owner with a bushknive. On the same day police proceeded to the area, and on investigation, they discovered where the suspects were hiding. On their arrival in the house, the suspects shot at the police who then retaliated. During the shootout, one suspect (29) was fatally shot, and three other suspects were immediately arrested while three fled the scene on foot. Police recovered an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, groceries, and cellphone.
The suspect were arrested and charged for business robbery, attempted murder, possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition, and possession of suspected stolen property.
The District Commissioner Major General Ngangema Xakavu commended the members for swiftly arresting the suspects and recovering the stolen goods and unlicensed firearm. He thanked the communities for sharing valuable information that led to the arrest. Together, we can do more.
