A joint operation by the Limpopo Provincial Organised Crime Investigation Unit, Provincial Flying Squad, SAPS Ladybrand, and Vusela Risk security has led to the arrest of a 34-year-old foreign national male suspected of being the mastermind behind ATM bombings and robberies in Limpopo province.
The suspect was apprehended on Sunday, 11 August 2024, in the Ladybrand policing area of the Free State province. He is expected to make his first court appearance at the Seshego Magistrate’s Court on 13 August 2024, and will later join his accomplices for a pre-trial hearing at the Regional Court on 15 August 2024.
The arrest follows a thorough investigation into a string of ATM bombings and robberies that terrorized the business community between January 2022 and May 2023. Twelve suspects were previously arrested, but the alleged kingpin evaded capture until now.
Limpopo Provincial Commissioner of SAPS, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, commended the team for their outstanding collaboration and dedication to bringing the suspect to justice.
