IPSS Medical Rescue and IPSS Security Services responded to an attempted hijacking on the N2 near Mandeni.
A courier vehicle travelling north was stopped by a single vehicle with four armed suspects after passing through the Mandeni toll gate.
Armed suspects opened fire on the courier vehicle, critically injuring the driver.
The passenger of the courier valuable, and armed security escort, returned fire, reportedly injuring one suspect.
The four suspects escaped in their vehicle empty-handed.
The critically injured driver was stabilised on the scene by IPSS Medical Rescue Advanced Life Support.
Due to the nature of his injuries, the decision was made to activate the Netcare Medical Helicopter to airlift the driver to a suitable facility for the care required.
The crime scene was handed over to SAPS, who were on scene, for further investigation….
