Whilst a KZNVIP Officer was returning to his area along the Phoenix Highway towards Phoenix Industrial Park, A Silver Vw Polo Bypassed the traffic signal and collided into the vehicle.
Recovering from the shock of the crash the KZNVIP Officer got off his vehicle and proceeded to check on the other occupants as he radioed it in to the control centre.
Whilst walking towards the vehicle he was then knocked down and the Vehicle fled the accident scene. Responding KZNVIP Vehicles noticed the Silver Vw Polo Fleeing at High Speed towards Stonebridge and a chance ensued.
Pedestrians crossing the Roadway along Stonebridge were made to Run as the vehicle proceeded at high-speed on the pavement. Eventually the vehicle was immobilized.
The 2 occupants were very aggressive and tried to attack Response Officers as they detained them.
The Response Officer who was knocked down was treated by KZNVIP Medics before being transported to a medical facility for further medical attention.
He is in a stable condition, we thank the community and fellow law enforcement officers for their concerns and wellness wishes towards our team, the support is tremendous.
All emergency services were in attendance.
