The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has applauded a team of Investigators for working tirelessly around the clock and successfully tracking down and arresting one of the suspects on Saturday, 8 October 2022.
This after an incident of a farm attack and house robbery on a farm at Roedtan in which a farmer was killed and properties robbed on Friday night, 7 October 2022.
Five men driving in a white Toyota Corolla with unknown registration numbers, arrived on the farm, Derde Kraal under Roedtan policing area in the Waterburg District at about 18:00 on Friday under the pretext that they were coming to buy milk.
They found a friend of the victim who was forcibly taken into the farm house and guarded by one of the suspects. Afterwards, the farm owner, in the company of his girlfriend, unknowingly arrived at the premises coming from the local town and were unexpectedly accosted by the remaining four suspects who pointed them with firearms.
The suspects tied his girlfriend and the friend with cable ties and started demanding money from the farm owner.
They then hit him on the head with an iron pipe, forcing him to hand over the safe keys.
They then allegedly disarmed him of his firearm and shot him dead.
Thereafter, the suspects took firearms including a rifle from the safe, cellphones, a Laptop and other valuables before fleeing the scene in a white Toyota Corolla. The deceased was identified as Janse van Rensburg (36).
The Provincial Commissioner ordered that a team of Investigators be assembled to track down the suspects. The tactical intelligence-driven operation was conducted and white Toyota Corolla matching the description of the one that was used by the suspects during the farm attack, was spotted at Moletji under Seshego policing area.
The vehicle was searched and the members found two 9mm pistol magazines, thirty (30) live rounds of ammunition and 9mm double magazines. The suspect was immediately arrested. The team is currently tracking down the remaining four suspects.
