Amnesty International has bemoaned what it says is government’s inability to curb the country’s high crime-rate.

The organisation released its latest report on the state of human rights around the word on Tuesday.

It says violent crime continues to plague South Africa, with murder rates soaring, mass shootings, femicides, and assassinations continuing unabated.

Shenilla Mohamed, who’s the executive director at Amnesty International South Africa, says the undermining of basic human rights is not only a local issue.

“Amnesty International’s annual report further illustrates how impunity is also inflamed worldwide with Russia’s invasion of Ukraine an example of what can happen when a state thinks it can flout laws and violate human rights without consequences.”

Mohamed says urgent action is needed from government to strengthen law enforcement.

“No-one is safe in South Africa, and the impunity with which killings are carried out is fuelling the flames. Urgent action is needed from the government, including the South African Police Service, who have a duty to protect everyone who lives in this country.”

When will these people ever learn, the government is the reason for this failure in South Africa. The ANC government has proved for nearly 30 years, they do not care. They only care about themselves. They are the problem, why go to the problem to fix the problem. It just makes no sense. These reporters need to get a clue for peats sake!
