The police in Bloemspruit arrested 32-year-old male for alleged murder, attempted murder and arson in Monnahalatwe earlier.
A complaint was received at the Community Service Centre and the patrol vehicle was dispatched to attend at about 03:40.
On arrival at the scene the members found the lifeless body of a 27-year-old male lying within a few meters from a burnt shack with serious open head wounds.
The paramedics were summoned to the scene and declared him dead.
According to the reports received by the police, the suspect arrived at the deceased’s shack with a hammer and started assaulting the deceased and his girlfriend who were both sleeping.
The victims both managed to run out of the shack but the male fell to the ground where he was found dead by the police.
The deceased’s girlfriend was rushed to local hospital where she received medical treatment.
Further allegations is that the suspect further burnt the deceased’s shack using paraffin.
The motive for the attack is unknown.
A case of murder, attempted murder and arson was opened at Bloemspruit Police Station.
The suspect was arrested and detained in police custody. He will appear in Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 19 June 2023.
