On Friday, 16 June 2023 at about 02:15 the local security patrolling on farms arrested and handed over five suspects to Kestell police after they caught them in the act of stripping parts from import vehicles on the side of the road on the N5.
It’s alleged that the security guards were patrolling along the N5 road when they spotted a blue Honda sedan with Lesotho registration parked alongside the N5 road with another truck that was loaded with import cars to be transported to Lesotho.
The members suspected that they might be draining diesel from the truck. Upon approaching, they found five suspects stealing parts from one of the 10 vehicles that were in transit.
The security alerted the police and nearby farmers.
All five suspects were apprehended and placed in custody. The Honda sedan and Hino truck have been seized.
The five suspects, aged between 32 and 46, are expected to appear before the Kestell Magistrate Court soon, facing charges of theft from motor vehicle.
