Even if the fig tree would not bone, Lord, and there would be no grapes on the vineyards. Even if the olive harvest would fail, and the lands yield no harvest . . .

And even if the longing would lie deep in my eyes, and the fear and uncertainty would hide little by little in my heart.

Even if the road would run miles of dirt and holes in front of my feet, and my heart’s trying to get tired.

Even if my eyes would struggle to see the sun, the sun that You set on my path every day.

Even if my head would keep trying to understand my heart, and my prayers are tired some days before You come to kneel. . . nevertheless I will continue to believe in You.

Will I believe that Your heart is good, and is love.

Yet every morning I will listen quietly if I hear Your voice. Because it is You who gives me the strength to get up every morning and walk my piece of road fully.

It is You who silences the cry of my heart and will put away the pieces of longing, where they belong.

It is You who folds the memory of the past in Your hands, and puts it aside, there where it can no longer see me.

It is You who kneels next to me and picks me up, when the road becomes too long for me.

That is why I will smile about You.

That is why I will go and store Your peace deep in my heart every morning.

That is why I will lift my head and look life quietly in the eyes. . . for you, Lord, walk with me. Everyday. Always. And that is enough for me.
