What a sad sad day to have to witness the destruction of such a once beautiful holiday destination. I can remember when I was a student in Dbn during 1970 – 72, it was safe to take the bus at 6c for the trip to the Post Office in Durban from where I used to walk, alone, the three or four blocks to the beach. Never felt unsafe. Everything clean, with the smell of ocean and candyfloss in the air. Could leave ones meagre belongings and wallet (with probably nothing more than R1 in it) on the beach while swimming.
