Lauren Anne Dickason, formerly a doctor in Pretoria, has begun her trial in the High Court in Christchurch.
She is facing charges of murdering her three young daughters in 2021. Lauren, 41, is charged with strangling and suffocating Liané, 6, and 2-year-old twins Maya and Karla on Sept. 16, 2021, while her husband was out of dinner with colleagues. She has denied guilt on the charges.
Graham Dickason told police that his wife was “not a nurturing mother” and testified in her murder trial that she had previously mentioned wanting to hurt the children.
Graham and Lauren’s children were found dead in their New Zealand home with cable ties around their necks. Lauren allegedly killed them and then attempted suicide, but failed to take her own life.
When he returned to South Africa after the murder of his three daughters, Graham Dickason found more cable ties strung together, much like the ones his wife allegedly used in the murders. Dickason testified tuesday in the trial of his wife, saying he lived in a room in his mother’s house when he was in South Africa. It was the same room in which Lauren had organized their belongings before moving to New Zealand. It was there that he found the cable ties among the belongings they had left behind. When he visited Lauren in January, she confirmed that she bound the cable ties together, but not why, Graham reportedly testified.
Lauren’s attorney, Kerryn Beaton KC, argued that Lauren had experienced a major depressive episode and thought she should kill herself and her daughters. The trial continues.
