Suspect to appear in court for the possession of Heroin valued at about R1.2 million

WESTERN CAPE – The vigilance and commitment of members to eradicate the illegal trafficking of drugs through and via our main entry and exit routes yielded positive results when a 62-year-old year old man was arrested after he was found in possession of 5kg heroin with an estimated value of R1.2 million earlier today, Sunday, 06 August 2023.

Members attached to the Provincial Organised Crime Detectives, Narcotics Section, assisted by members attached to Border Police at Cape Town International Airport, conducted stop and search operations at the Cape Town International Airport when they spotted a possible suspect. They accosted the man of Spanish decent and conducted a search when they discovered 5kg of heroin in his possession. He was arrested and the heroine was confiscated as evidence.

The suspect is expected to make his first court appearance in the Bellville Magistrates’ court on Tuesday, 08 August 2023 to face a charge of illegal dealing in drugs.

The Western Cape provincial commissioner, Lt Gen Thembisile Patekile praised the members for their diligence in bringing perpetrators of these drug offenses to book. “Drugs destroys the very moral fibre of society and the most vulnerable families of our society. He urged the member to remain vigilant and to enhance their focus and actions against drug peddlers in the Province.
