The Deputy Director at Limpopo Department of Health, Modjadji Florance Ramarumo (51) was convicted and sentenced for fraud by the Polokwane Specialised Commercial Crimes Court on 26 September 2023.
During 2014, the accused in her professional capacity as Deputy Director (Risk Manager) structured a Mercedes Benz Kompressor vehicle to be used for official duties.
Instead of using the registered vehicle (Mercedes Benz Kompressor) to perform her official duties, the accused used another vehicle (Ford Bantam) that was not registered. The management of the Department of Health discovered the shenanigans and reported the matter to the Polokwane based Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation.
The Department suffered a loss of R7 958.36 due to her fraudulent activities. After conducting a thorough investigation the accused was served with summons to appear in court on 06 October 2022.
When Ramarumo appeared before court, she pleaded guilty for fraud and she was fined ten thousand rand (R10 000-00) or twelve months (12) imprisonment. She was further sentenced to five (5) years imprisonment which is suspended for five (5) years on condition that she is not found guilty of similar offence during the period of suspension.
