An intelligence driven operation with the assistance from Mthatha K9 Unit and Mthatha Central Task Team led to the arrest of a 26-year-old man from Bhityi, who is linked in several criminal cases ranging from house robberies to possession of unlicensed ammunition.
On Wednesday evening, 27 September 2023, members from Mthatha K9 Unit and Mthatha Central Task Team operationalised an intelligence information and pounced at the tavern in Khonqeni Village, Bhityi, where a 26-year-old man who is linked in three robberies, and four other serious crimes was arrested and was also charged for possession of unlicensed ammunition. He was also found in possession of a toy gun that resembled a real 9mm pistol.
The suspect is due to appear in the Bhityi Magistrates’ Court soon on nine charges ranging from house robbery to the Contravention of the Firearms Act. There is also a possibility of additional charges at the later stage of the investigation.
In a separate incident, the following day, on Thursday, 28 September 2023, members from K9 and Mthatha Central Task Team nabbed a 25-year-old man in Ngqeleni for possession of an unlicensed firearm. He is due to appear in court on Monday, 2 October 2023, on charges of possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
