The relentless fight against drug abuse and trade continues in the Lejweleputswa District, as more dealers are brought to book.
On Tuesday 17 October 2023 at about 11:40. Members of Welkom Public Order Policing Unit were on duty conducting a stop and search in S. Matshabeng Section in Thabong, when they noticed a suspicious exchange between two males. Members stopped the vehicle and the two suspects started running. One of the suspects ran into a yard and members ran after him and found him in the house busy trying to hide cash and drugs underneath a couch. A 32-year-old male was arrested for possession and dealing in drugs after mandrax tablets were found.
In a separate incident during patrols in Virginia CBD, the team came across a concerned community member who provided information about a male busy selling drugs from a shop.
The team reacted swiftly and upon arrival at the shop, members found mandrax drugs hidden inside a takkie on the shelf and other drugs such as dagga and Chrystal meth were found in the shop owner’s possession. A 39-year-old male was arrested for Possession and dealing in Drugs
The two suspects will appear in court soon for possession and dealing in drugs.
