Cape Town lady in court for alleged vehicle finance swindle

A 46-year-old lady has been rearrested in connection with vehicle finance fraud to the value of over R1.6 million. The Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation team arrested the lady on 26 October 2023 in Cape Town after she allegedly failed to make her vehicle finance repayments.

It is reported that in 2018, the suspect allegedly applied for two vehicle finance at a dealership using fraudulent documents. The deal was approved by the bank, resulting in the dealership delivering the vehicles worth over R1.6 million to her.

The bank raised the alarm when she failed to pay her instalments and an investigation was launched.

The investigations revealed that all the documents submitted for the vehicle finance were actually fraudulent. A case of fraud was opened and transferred to the Hawks for further investigation.

The matter was struck off the roll due to Covid 19 in 2020.

The suspect was tracked to her home where she was re-arrested after the case was put back on court roll. The suspect is expected to appear in the Goodwood Magistrate’s Court on 27 October 2023.
