In order to prevent and combat crime that may threaten the safety and security of the community, vigilant police officers attached to Philippi East SAPS arrested two suspects aged 36 and 40 for the possession of a stolen motor vehicle and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition in Luzuko last night.
Members were doing visible policing patrols in the area when they noticed the suspicious looking vehicle. They immediately stopped and searched the vehicle and the occupants and found a Norinco 9mm pistol, six rounds of ammunition and three cellphones.
Further investigation also indicates that the motor vehicle was positively linked to a carjacking case that occurred in the Kuilsrivier policing precinct during June 2023.
The suspects are due to appear in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 09 November 2023 on the mentioned charges.
In an unrelated matter, members attached to Worcester SAPS arrested five adult males for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition on 07 November 2023 at about 01:15 in Riebeeck Street Worcester.
