Detectives attached to the Provincial Serious and Violent Crimes unit continue to rid the community of undesired elements when they detained a 27-year-old man on Monday 20 November 2023, on a charge of murder. Extensive investigation and the commitment of the police members resulted in the arrest of a second suspect, a 34-year-old man on Wednesday 22 November 2023.
Initially, Parow police responded to a complaint on Monday 20 November 2023 at about 08:30, at Market Street, Parow Valley, where they found the bodies of a male, aged 71 and a female aged 77, who sustained fatal injuries. Both victims were declared deceased on the scene by the medical personnel. Reports indicate that unknown suspects entered the house through the roof and brutally attacked the elderly couple in the privacy of their home.
The investigating officer and his team then launched a manhunt in a bid to ensure a breakthrough. The 27-year-old man made a court appearance in the Bellville Magistrate’s Court on Thursday 23 November 2023. The case was remanded to Wednesday 29 November 2023, for bail information. The 34-year-old suspect is scheduled to appear in the Bellville Magistrates’ court on Monday, 27 November 2023 on a charge of murder.
The Western Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembisile Patekile, commended the efforts of the investigating team who worked diligently and did everything possible to prepare a water tight case with the aim of a successful prosecution and conviction.
