Mooinooi police arrested four suspects between the ages of 17 and 35 on Friday, 24 November 2023, in connection with the murder of a 23-year-old man at Safropa section, Majakaneng village, close to Mooinooi.
At about 04:00 on Friday 24 November 2023, a group of people went to a house where they allegedly assaulted a male and forcefully pulled him out to the street where they tied him with wire and set him alight using paraffin.
The incident was reported to the police three hours later.
Upon arrival at the crime scene, the police found the naked body of a male with visible injuries and burn wounds, lying on the ground next to a dumping site. The deceased’s mother identified him as Samuel Mudau (23).
Subsequent to investigations by the police, Mpho Matlala (31), Gontse Boikanyo (20) and Tebogo Boikanyo (28) were arrested for murder.
The accused appeared before the Brits Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 27 November 2023. They were remanded in custody and are expected to appear again before the same court on Monday, 05 December 2023, for a formal bail application.
Meanwhile, the fourth suspect, who is a minor, will appear at a children’s court on Friday, 01 December 2023.
The Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, once more issued a stern warning to the community not to take the law into their own hands but to report crime to the police. He also thanked the Mooinooi Detectives for their meticulous investigation that led to the arrests.
