Suspects on their way to court on possession charges

Continued efforts in our fight against the distribution of drugs which is a major contributor to gang violence in our province led to the arrest of an adult male in Boom Street, Schaapkraal on Wednesday afternoon.

Members of the Western Tactical Response Team deployed under Operational Response were busy with stop and search operations when they noticed a male trying to hide a plastic bag between the wooden planks when he saw the police vehicle approaching. The members ensued with a search of the man and the area where they saw him hid the plastic bag. They found and seized the plastic bag containing 55 packets of crystal meth and 48 packets of dagga. The suspect was arrested and detained for the possession of drugs.

He will appear in the Athlone Magistrates’ court today.

In an unrelated matter members of Klapmuts SAPS arrested an adult male when he was a found in possession of copper on the railway between Klapmuts and Muldersvlei on Wednesday, 28 November 2023 at about 23:30.

Security personnel who used drone technology to monitor the railway lines to curb infrastructural damages and thefts, together with SAPS members, spotted six suspects on the Old Paarl Road between Muldersvlei and Klapmuts when they responded and gave chase. The team managed to arrest two of the six suspects, 47 and 33 years old respectively and recovered Transnet copper cable to the estimated value of R250 000.00. The four suspects who are believed to part of a syndicate, are still at large.
