Police in Boitekong arrested a 29-year-old woman on Sunday, 26 November 2023, after registering a false rape case. The accused alleged that her former boyfriend raped her on Saturday, 25 November 2023. As part of investigation by the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit, the Investigating Officer took the woman to the Doctor for medical examination. According to information, the Doctor was about to examine the woman when she informed the Investigating Officer that she was not raped and she reported the case to extort money from her former boyfriend. Thus, a case of perjury was registered and the woman was arrested.
Ayanda Jim made her first court appearance on Tuesday, 28 November 2023. She was remanded in custody until Monday, 18 December 2023.
The Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena commended the members for taking decisive action against the accused. He cautioned that incidents such as this one, are tantamount to abusing state resources and at the same deny the deserving members of the community of the much needed services.
