The prompt response by local police and a rapid response team from Public Order Police, within minutes after a report of a business robbery being perpetrated, led to the arrest of three business robbers who were caught red-handed, in the act.
Investigation suggests that earlier today Tuesday, 05 December 2023 at about 07:30 staff members of a chain retailer in Main Street, Vredenburg were busy with their early duties when five males entered the store. Three of the robbers were armed with firearms and one with a knife. They allegedly threatened the staff members, who activated the alarm upon which a private security company rushed to the scene.
Shots were exchanged between the security company and the robbers and fortunately nobody was injured. The front door of the store was however damaged. Shortly thereafter, at about 07:35, the police members arrived on the scene and tactically entered the store where they accosted three of the robbers who tried to hide. They were apprehended and a bag of money that the robbers wanted to flee with, was recovered as well as one of the firearms used by the robbers. Two of the suspects fled the scene.
The suspects will appear in Vredenburg Magistrates’ court once charged.
