Two police officials appear in court for allegedly lending a police vehicle to a member of the public

In an effort to deal with unbecoming conduct among SAPS members in the Western Cape, two police constables appeared in the Simons Town Magistrate’s court today following their arrest on Tuesday evening as part of an investigation into illicit activities involving a taxi boss.

The pair aged 31 and 25 who were based at the Nyanga police station are alleged to have allowed a member of the public to make unauthorised use of a state vehicle. Scenes from that irregular occurrence were captured in a video posted on social media platforms earlier in the year. The incident is alleged to have occurred in the Ocean View area.

An investigation ensued which led to the arrests last night where the two are charged in terms of sections 56 and 59 of the Police Act.

Western Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lt Gen Thembisile Patekile has vowed to clean the Service in the Province of police officials who transgress the law and departmental prescripts.

An internal disciplinary investigation is also underway pertaining to the conduct of the two police officials.
