A 23-year-old man is expected to appear before the Bafokeng Magistrates’ Court in Tlhabane on Wednesday, 27 December 2023, for possession of suspected stolen property, resisting arrest as well as charges relating to contravention of Illegal Immigration Act, 2002. The suspect’s court appearance emanates from his arrest on Friday, 22 December 2023, after he was found in possession of suspected stolen property at Lefaragatlha village, near Tlhabane outside Rustenburg.
According to reports, the suspect who was an employee at a Game Lodge in Swartruggens, quit his job on Wednesday, 21 December 2023, following a quarrel with the senior manager of the Lodge. It is alleged that on Friday, 23 December 2023, he clandestinely went back to the Lodge and took his clothes and stole items such as deep freezer, bar fridge, two bicycles, a generator, motor vehicle and slaughtered two goats. The Lodge owner called the police after becoming aware of the theft. Consequently, the motor vehicle was found abandoned at Boshoek. The suspect was successfully traced to his residential place, where some of the stolen items, including two goat carcasses, were found in his possession. He is expected to be transferred to Swartruggens after appearing in court tomorrow to face charges of housebreaking, stock theft, and Theft of Motor vehicle.
The Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, commended Swartruggens Detectives, Phokeng and Hartbeespoortdam K9 and Madikwe stock theft Units for acting swiftly and making sure that the suspect was arrested.
