Bogus scrap metal dealer driving unroadworthy bakkie nabbed with copper cable worth R30 000

Members of Dealesville Visible Policing were on vehicle patrol in R64 road when they noticed a white bakkie Nissan hardbody full of scrap metals and the vehicle was approached on 24 January 2024 at about 12:00

They stopped and searched the vehicle and inside the vehicle, three white plastic bags full of stripped copper cable, which weighed 52 kg with a street value of R30 000, were found. The driver could not give a satisfactory explanation for being in possession thereof.

A preliminary investigation reveals that the suspect is an illegal scrap metal dealer and was driving an unroadworthy vehicle. A 59-year-old man was arrested for possession of suspected stolen copper cable and driving an unroadworthy vehicle.

The suspect will appear in the Boshof Magistrate’s Court today.
