CAPE TOWN. – A car caught fire in Table Mountain Road at 1pm. As a result, the surrounding bushes flame and consequently the fire advanced to Table Mountain. Table Mountain Road is then for any traffic.
According to bystanders, the fire spread to the left of the cable market offices. Table Mountain’s Cable Company has announced no further admission tickets will be sold and visitors will be accompanied safely from the mountain.
Table Mountain National Park, NCC Wildfires as well as Newlands and Kloofnek firefighting teams, along with three Huey helicopters were called in to bring the fire under control.
Stappers were called on trails near the Platteklip ravine and surrounding areas, to move off the mountain as a precaution.
Visitors who were on the mountain during the outbreak of the fire began to post photos and videos on social media. Yusuf Sayed posted a video mentioning that his son was allegedly the first one to see the smoke. They went to report it to the Table Mountain authorities.
No information has been issued about the burnt -out car and the circumstances under which it caught fire.
Inquiry was sent to Cape Town SAPS regarding the incident and the car in question.
