The Provincial Organized Crime Unit has arrested a 52-year-old suspect who is also a foreign national for possession and dealing in illicit drugs worth over twelve thousand rand (R12 000)on Tuesday 19, March 2024, at about 06:30.
The team received information about a suspect who was about to deliver illicit drugs at one of the shops in Eduan Park, driving a blue Chevrolet Spark with a Limpopo registration number.
The team followed the information and drove to the specified address. They spotted a motor vehicle fitting the description. The motor vehicle was tactically stopped. An African male was found occupying the driver’s seat with the door and window locked.
Members introduced themselves, and immediately the suspect drove away after noticing the police. Members gave chase until he was pounced on, at his place of residence at 90 Burger Street in Polokwane. Upon searching his motor vehicle, a white paper box was found with seven transparent plastic bags containing suspected drugs (heroin) and three (3) transparent plastic bags containing powder suspected to be heroin.
He was subsequently arrested for possession of and dealing in suspected illicit drugs.
The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe applauded the team for their swift response.
“This resolute action demonstrates the SAPS’s unwavering commitment to destroying the networks that support criminal activity in our communities,” said General Hadebe
The suspect is expected to appear before Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday 20, March 2024.
