FREE STATE. – A manhunt for two unknown suspects who allegedly attacked, tied up and robbed a family on a farm on Petrus Steyn on Friday evening has been launched by the police.

Sgt. Mahlomola Kareli says the victims – a man (63), woman (58) and the woman’s son (32) – allegedly went home around 3:00 p.m. when two suspicious men rushed at them from an outside room and with ‘ a firearm threatens. They are inside the house where the victims are believed to be tied to chairs and their heads covered. The house was ransacked and items were loaded into a gray Toyota Hilux double-cabin bakkie belonging to the man. The man’s revolver was also looted before the suspects fled the farm with the stolen bakkie.

Kareli says the victims were able to free themselves and contacted the police for help at around 19:00. The police were on the lookout for the vehicle. It was spotted where it entered Zamdela in Sasolburg. A district task force located the vehicle in Zamdelam Iraq 5 and started chasing it. A shootout ensued, after which the suspects fled on foot.

The stolen vehicle and items, along with the van and firearm, were recovered.

No arrests have been made, but the investigation is ongoing.
