The officer was shot in his arm before the suspect fled with two cellphones taken from the vehicle.
The officer is in hospital in a stable condition.
A case of attempted murder and robbery is under investigation by the Provincial Serious and Violent Investigation Unit.
Lt Gen Mene has iterated that, “The attack on the officer is not only an attack, on one of our officers but an attack on the State. We will not rest until those responsible are hunted down and arrested. We urge anyone with information related to this incident to come forward. Any details, no matter how small, could be crucial in our investigation. We will stand strong against those who seek to undermine the safety and security of our communities and our men and women in blue.”
