A total of four suspects aged between 19 and 37 appeared before Senwabarwana Magistrate’s Court, on Monday 20 May 2024, for stock theft. They were remanded in custody until 03 June 2024 for further investigation.
Tolwe police and local farmers apprehended four suspects along the N11 road towards Steiloop, Tolwe policing area in Capricorn District on Sunday, 19 May 2024.
Police while patrolling, received a tip-off about a silver Mercedes Benz suspected to have been transporting stolen goats heading to Steiloop direction. Members pursued the vehicle until it was intercepted along the N11. Upon searching the vehicle, they found four male occupants and upon a further search in the boot of the vehicle, two goats were found. After a thorough interview, it was confirmed that the suspects have stolen the livestock from one of the farms.
The nearby community was notified about the livestock. The lawful owner of the livestock came to the scene where he positively identified the livestock.
Four suspects were immediately arrested for stock theft.
The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has welcomed the arrest of the suspects and appreciated the partnership of the local farmers that led to this arrest. She urged the community to continue working together with the police to curb the scourge of stock theft in the province.
Police investigations are still continuing.
