Missing man found dead on farm days after break in by Andre Smit
Two men have been arrested after the body of a man previously reported missing was found in a sugarcane plantation in Tongaat, KwaZulu-Natal.
Spot. Provincial police spokesman Robert Netshiunda said the body of Russell Lexton Cromhout, 69, was found in the Waterfall area of Tongaat on Saturday night.
Police were called to a farm in the Waterfall area on Wednesday following rumours of a burglary. The house was ransacked and both the owner and his vehicle were fairway.
A search for Cromhout has been launched. The Serious Violent Crimes Unit in Umhlali took over the investigation and arrested one of the suspects at a grocery store in Upper Tongaat on Saturday. A firearm and ammunition belonging to Cromhout were found in his possession.
A second suspect was also apprehended and Cromhout’s vehicle as well as household items were found in his possession.
The suspects are charged with murder, burglary and theft, unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition as well as possession of suspected stolen property.
The two suspects, who were previously released on parole, are expected to appear in court Monday.
