WATCH: More police officers deployed for stability in KZN
- By Wanda Olivier
KWAZULU-NATAL. – Apart from 500 police personnel deployed to the province during May, a further 300 members, associated with public order policing (OOP), are sent to the province for stability.
Brig. Athlenda Mathe said the first batch of 200 members was deployed in early May and another 300 in the election. The last group of 300 members was placed in position by Gen. Fannie Masemola in support of NATJOINTS’ safety and security, national and provincial election plan. The members were sent to the province to maintain stability in the province, according to Mathe. To date, due to good planning, this province has been described as relatively stable.
Mathe says maintaining stability is now in the post-election phase. During this phase, activities are monitored after the outcome of the election. Law enforcement authorities are on standby for incidents that may occur.
Gen. Mathe told the members during deployment that they would also maintain stability throughout the country: “We have delivered the 2024 NPE elections in a stable environment. Voters were able to exercise their democratic right without fear or favour, we will continue to respond accordingly to prevent and combat criminality. We thank voters and communities for thus far conducting themselves in an orderly and responsible manner. We hope this will prevail. Those who step out of line, will be dealt with,” said Gen. Masemola.
Lt Gen Tebello Mosikili, co-chairman of NATJOINTS, thanked the members on the parade for their role during the election period to ensure a peaceful environment.
The members will also be employed in the disaster-stricken Tongaat area to support those affected by the inclement weather conditions.
