2 bodies found within 2 days on R42 at Vanderbijlpark
“They found the body of a man in the open field.”
Sharpeville police are investigating a murder case after the body of a man was found opposite the Isak Steyl Stadium in Barrage Road, Vanderbijlpark, towards Vereeniging, on the R42.
The deceased was identified as Nico Dean Venter (20). He was reported missing on Saturday (8/6) and his body was found later the same day. “He was on his way to Vereeniging on foot from his fiancée’s home in Vanderbijlpark,” says Gauteng police spokesperson Busisiwe Sango.
Police were called to the scene by a passerby. They found the body of a man in the open field. He was wearing a black T-shirt, stained with blood, and a black denim. Not far from the scene, police also found a blue Adidas tracksuit jacket.
Anyone with information about the murder can call the Stop Crime Number on 08600 10111. Anonymous tips can also be sent via the MySAPS app from a smartphone. The information will be treated as confidential.
In another incident in the same area, police are investigating another murder case. This comes after the body of a man was found in an open field opposite the Isak Steyl Stadium on the R42 on Thursday (6/6).
Police say the deceased was about 50 years old, was wearing blue denim, a white T-shirt and black Carvella shoes. The man was stabbed in his chest with a sharp object. Two bank cards named T.S. Mfene were obtained from his body. His family was located and identified the body.
‘We advise motorists to stop along this road’
Police are appealing for anyone who may have information about the second case to call the investigating officer on 081 660 2215. The CPF Vanderbijlpark Sector 3 is warning motorists about the recent incidents of hijackings and murders on Barrage Road (R42) between Makro and the Isak Steyl Stadium.
“We strongly advise motorists to stop along this road under any circumstances as it has become a dangerous area,” says Sango.
