A hefty sentence was handed down to a 25-year-old stepfather for the rape of his stepson.
The SAPS management in the Northern Cape was elated and lauded the investigating officer for ensuring that a paedophile was removed from society.
On 25 November 2023, a 6-year-old boy reported to his elder brother that their stepfather sexually assaulted him and that he only stopped when he started crying.
The elder brother informed their mother upon her arrival at home, and they immediately informed the police. It was discovered through medical examination that the child was indeed raped.
The case docket was allocated to Sergeant Elliot Geya of Upington Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offenses, and the suspect was arrested on 27 November 2023.
The Regional Court in Upington convicted the accused for Rape and he was sentenced to 18 years of imprisonment, of which 3 years is suspended for 5 years on 24 May 2024.
